Somare was quoted as saying Papua New GuineaLacksthe capacity to take Australia’s asylum seekers andthe refugees are desperate to get to Australia andthey will keep going.

He said he knew Kevin Rudd well and is a friendbut what he is doing to Papua New Guineais not right.

Sir Michael’s comments tothe financial review were his first since Mr Rudd and Mr O’Neill announced a deal a week ago under which all asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat will be sent tPNGA strategy to breakthe people smuggling trade and stemthe flow of asylum seeker boats.

Sir Michael’saidthe difference betweenthe current deal and his deal with former Australian Prime Minister John Howard is that it was always understoodthe detention centre would be a transit place until Australia found a place for them rther than resettlingthem in PNG

He said dumping people on Papua New Guineais not a good arrangement…we need to stop this program.

He said Mr O’Neill had also made a one sided decision without consultingthPNG Parliament orthe people.
