Many youths are working as porters for local and international trekkers who are walking the famous Kokoda Trail.

Sogeri Hotel Manager, Alfred Jack said the hotel also assists with bags, sleeping mats, water containers and other necessary equipment for the walk.

“Due to the success and development of the trekking industry, it provides services in corporate rental rooms to dinning and conference rooms,” he said.

A food cafe area and a bar provide refreshing moments for guests.

Sogeri police personnel are providing active security in the area. At the moment, there’s been a decrease in criminal activities.

Commander of the Sogeri Police Station, Senior Inspector Stanley Baroro, said his policemen have been responding quickly to crimes.

“This is to protect government assets and operation of business houses and people in the community,” he said.

Their areas of operation cover the Sogeri area and further extend to the fringes of the Kokoda Trail in Northern Province.

Meanwhile, the safety of people in the area has been guaranteed, because of quick response by police.
