Junior Development will be the focus of Team Central Table Tennis, as it prepares for the PNG Games in Lae, later this year.

A total of 16 boys and girls have been selected, to represent Team Central in the code.

The train on squad was selected during the Central Table Tennis Tournament at Tubuseria over the weekend.

The tournament was held at the Tubuseria Table Tennis Hall.

It attracted 40 players aged 12 to 21, who were all vying for a spot in Team Central.

Tournament Director Rea Loi says 8 boys and girls will be selected to be part of Team Central for the PNG Games.

He says focus will also be on Junior Development in the lead up, to the 2015 Pacific Games.

There are also plans to roll out Table Tennis Programs to schools and other centers in the country to boost interest in the sport.

PNG currently ranks 5th out of 12 countries in the Pacific Region, and hopes to improve its rankings come the 2015 games.
