Prime Minister Peter O’Neill today unveiled a plaque to officially open the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The new look stadium will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, and will also host other sporting events for the 2015 Pacific Games.
Prime Minister O’Neill said this world class facility goes to show PNG’s lead role in the region.
The redevelopment of the Sir John Guise Stadium sees the facility upgraded from a 900 seat grandstand, to one that can now cater for up to an impressive 15,000.
The first test for the venue was done two weekends ago for the Intrust Super Cup match between the SP PNG Hunters and the South’s Logan Magpies.
Prime Minister O’Neill said against all odds, we have achieved so much in the last two and a half years, and we should be proud of how far we have come.
In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister assured the people of PNG that these will be the best games ever delivered.
