Sir John Guise stadium to be upgraded

The country’s largest sporting facility, Sir John Guise stadium is to be upgraded to cater for fifteen thousand spectators for the 2015 Pacific Games.

Tenders are now out for the job. The current stadium will be demolished to start a fresh.

The 2015 Pacific Games venue infrastructure and equipment committee is now calling for tenders for site preparation tothe Sir John Guise Stadium.

Existing running track will be removerd and earthworks to commence for the construction site of a new track and grandstand seating.

Up to K200million is being pumped intothe refurbishment ofthe stadium includingthe indoor works with work to begin withthe outdoor facilities withthe work expected to be completed by Novermber 2014.

Concerns of existing and alternative venues and training facilities were surfaced asthe Sir John Guise Stadium will be closed tothe public as ofthe 01st of April.

The opening ceremony ofthe 2015 Pacific Games will be held atthe Sir John Guise stadium onthe 4th of July whePNG plays host tothe Pacific’s most prestigious sporting event.
