SHP poised for change

Southern Highlands Province is poised for change inthe coming years.

This will be driven by a provincial master plan to rebuildthe province. Wider consultation is needed before it can become a practical plan to be implemented.

The two day development forum was held atthe Aigiru Centre in Mendi Southern Highlands Province. It was well attended by stakeholders and development partners. All spoke on various development issues.

Their contributions will helpthe provincial government identify loop holesthere is inthe master plan. And strenthen it before it can be implemented to drivethe provincial governments’ development initiatives.

The province overthe years has being operating on an adhoc basis. Resulting in many missed opportunities despite been resource rich. Bet it is now in a transitional phase underthe lLeadersip of Governor William Powi.

Mr Powi urged development partners to aligntheir development plans withinthe framework ofthe master plan.

Architect behind this plan Dr. Lawrence Sause saidthe overall implementation strategy ofthe plan is to concentrate on rebuildingthe most urgent services inthe first two years.

He said provincial plans must be effectively developed and implemented. Onlythen National Plans such asthe Vision 2050 can be achieved.

Betthe real challenge is now onthe public servants in Mendi to make this plan become a reality.
