A series of earthquakes have hit parts of the New Guinea Islands region of Papua New Guinea this morning (11 October 2018).
The largest measured 7.0 at 6am, from an epicentre off the coast of Pomio, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake was followed by ongoing aftershocks, many of them of more than magnitude of 6.0.
No major damages have been reported.
The Rabaul volcanological observatory is yet to release an official earthquake bulletin regarding this morning’s quakes.
