The month of September will be a busy one for many sports, as many codes holding their national championships around the Independence long weekend.
Sports federations in Port Moresby and clubs around the country are in training in their various codes in preparations for the nationals.
A few of these will be hosted in Port Moresby, where teams from around the country are expected to keep the city busy.
Many sports have been running trial matches and selection trials to select teams for both men’s and women’s divisions.
So far, sporting federations who are ready for the nationals are, netball, volleyball, AFL, rugby nines and swimming, while hockey will hold their club championships in September.
PNG Football Association is ready to host their national tournament from August 10-14 in Madang, while boxing, taekwondo, karate and basketball are yet to announce dates for their national championships.
Team coaches and presidents will use the national championships to select representatives for the PNG Games in Kimbe.
