Parliament was told that K600 million allocated to upgradethe Sepik highways have not been spent onthe project.
Minister for Works Francis Awesa revealed this in parliament in response tothe series of questions raised bythe Member for Nuku Joseph Sungi onthe outstanding maintenance onthe Sepik highway.
He said a lot of money has been wasted inthe East Sepik Province by former members of parliament.
“I am aware of K600 million that was allocated for the highway, so what has happened to that money”, said Minister Awesa.
The Works Ministersaid for Angoram District alone, about K50 million was allocated in bulk but stillthere was no road maintenance. He wasthen interrupted by a point of order from Former Prime Minister and East Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare. His son Arthur previously heldthe Angoram Seat.
“It’s in safe in Sepik and has not been misappropriated. It is your administrator who is now seeking election who is staffing around not approving project for Angoram district”, said Sir Michael.
Mr Awesa clariflied thatthe issue was raised following a visit bythe Fraud Squad this week questioningthe alleged missing funds for the Sepik Highway.
He assuredthe people of Nuku thattheir concerns to connect Nuku District to Aitape will be addressed.
