School Fee Funding Remains a Challenge

by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

As the start of the 2016 academic year draws near, reports on the lack of funds available from the government have seen a rise.

School fee funding has over the years been a challenge for many parents, and today it’still remains a challenge throughout the country.

While those who are employed, and those with other sources of earning income, are able to meet the school fee for their children, not everyone is able to do so as not all are employed or even have the capacity to earn their own income through other means.

As this has remained an individual challenge for many parents, the introduction of the Tuition Fee Free Policy has given hope for many. But since then, many questions have been raised on the policy, as its stated use was not fully utilised.

Many have questioned the policy and the respective authorities including the government as to why the policy was not fully utilised and why funds were not allocated, or even released, as mentioned.

Calls are now being raised from all different provinces around the country, from different levels of education institutions on respective members and the government to look into the matter and help before the start of the classes come February as it will affect many both the children and the parents.
