Catholic Health Services in Madang says rural development is possible even with limited funding.
This mission agent has maintained some ofthe run-down facilities in remote Josephstaal in Madang.
Josephstaal is located inthe Middle Ramu District of Madang province. The health centre here was upgraded while maintenance was done onthe existing rural health infrastructures in four Districts within Madang.
They include Madang, Sumkar, Begia and Middle Ramu District with special emphasis on Josephstaal.
The Project Management Team ofthe Catholic Health Service say that despite limited funding from donor agencies,they were able to construct new buildings and renovate some ofthe old ones. The villagers also participated wheneverthey could. Local carpenters, electricians, plumbers were hired to help out.
Because ofthe size ofthe project,the team was divided into three stages. Stage One included Madang, Sumkar and Begia while Stage 2, Josephstaal station. The team will install 10 satellite sit’s here and reopenthe airstrip, one that’s been closed for almost two years.
Bet this could be months as access to this this remote station is only by foot or air.
