The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) Forensic Science Department is an important division within the police force, but lack of funding from the National Government has affected its operations.
Chief of Forensics, Supt. Philip Rambaliku said, “That main problem we are facing is the lack of creativeness and innovative by the management to request to the Government to provide funds to boost the capacity of the division”.
Rambaliku said the need for more input from the Government and the Police Management will go a long way in meeting the new plans for the division.
“Under the Police Modernization Program, K3.1 million was allocated for us (Forensic Division) but the funds have not been released yet,” Rambaliku said.
Today the Australian Federal Police under the PNG-Australian Policing Partnership Program gave new forensic equipment worth over K10,000 to the division.
AFP Commander to PNG, Alan Scott, said the assistance will continue with the training of local officers overseas to equip them with the knowledge of 21st century crime and investigation.
