Rigo eyes reopening of rural airstrips

Discussions are underway for the reopening of three rural airstrips in the Rigo LLG of Central Province.

Rigo MP Lekwa Gure says the airstrips will be a boost in helping local communities’ access markets while accessing other basic goods and services.

MP Gure says inland Rigo was neglected because of no road access, now the District is focus to turn its attention to the neglected communities by listening to their development challenges.

MP Gure says the 3 rural airstrips is key in helping these communities.” These airstrips will help a lot in moving services within those communities who have no road access to Port Moresby or District headquarters,” said Gure.

He said the District DDA is focus in providing opportunities for this people. He says the airstrip project will run parallel with the construction of a communication tower.

For the Rigo MP, he wants to visit the rural communities and listen to their development challenges and help build services for the people.
