Brent Kite flew into the country yesterday to attend a three day conference organised by Encounter First, a gospel ministry.
He was accompanied by George Dansey, Parramatta Eels chaplain, to share their experience in NRL to the younger generation using Rugby League as a driving tool for positive attitude in the country.
Brent Kite is a Tonga and Australia international, and New South Wales State of Origin representative front-row forward. He played club football for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and Penrith Panthers.
Kite was named the Clive Churchill Medallist for his performance in the 2008 NRL Grand Final, in which he helped steer Manly-Warringah to a 40 – 0 thumping of the Melbourne Storms.
Speaking with Kite about his life in NRL, he said he was privileged enough to serve God and play football at the same time, which most players don’t do.
Kite said coming over to PNG was always a wonderful experience and even now walking with his son through the busy 6 Mile market he was overwhelmed by adored fans.
Some of the NRL big names like Jarred Hayne, Israel Folau and some others have been under his mentorship and are successful star athletes and Dansey hopes to use his experience to impart on young Papua New Guineans.
The three day conference will have morning and night sessions that will end on Saturday evening.
