Promote Temporary Special Measures

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Port Moresby

East Sepik Province must also promote the Temporary Special Measures, to encourage women to participate in politics at all levels.

A women leader in the province, Wendy Hevengu says, women have now realised their potentials and can speak publicly about their issues of concern to the political bureaucrats.

Hevengu was speaking at the National Women’s Day celebration at Numbo Local Level Government.

For the first time, the women of East Sepik Province convened to Yangoru-Saussia to celebrate their achievemen’s and challenges.

“Gender equity remains a challenge and women leaders are trying their best to address these issues,”

However, with the current political support from the Yangoru-Saussia District, driven by local MP, Richard Maru, this has opened the pathway enabling more opportunities for women.

Numbo Local Level Government in Yangoru-Saussia District is the proud host of the National Women’s Day celebration in East Sepik Province.

Local Level Government President Michael Kombo said the mindset of men always labelled as superiors must now change, with both genders working together to bring change.
