By Theckla Gunga – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The NCD Health Division is seeing promising results, as TB’s curable and success rates in Port Moresby have reached the 70 percent mark.

NCD Health Provincial Adviser, Doctor Jerry Tanumei, says the favorable results are a joint effort by the National Health Department and development partners.

The promising statistics shows a positive step in the National Capital District’s fight to eliminate tuberculosis.

Especially, when on a national scale, NCD contributes to 35 percent of the country’s total TB cases on average.

The curable and success rates for the first quarter for 2018; are 71 and 70 percent respectively and are measured against 2013 figures.

Those conducting medical checks were advised to encourage TB patients to complete their dosage, eat healthy meals and refrain from smoking

At the launch of the new TB Laboratory at the Badili Clinic today, development partners were acknowledged in the joint effort to fight TB.

Badili becomes the second clinic in the Moresby South electorate to have lab facilities and Clinic Manager, Sister Tina Peter, is grateful for the support.
