NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, has discouraged the National Identification (NID) System saying it is a waste of time and money.
He said the NID system could be abused with fake identities in big metropolitan cities like Port Moresby and Lae, where there is a frequent migration of people without permanent residency.
Governor Parkop said as many remain without a permanent residency, people could fake their identities with that of another person.
He said that the government should fund existing government agencies like the Electoral Commission to invoke this system, rather than spending money to create a new agency.
The NCD Governor said the NID system is only applicable in a village setting where identities of people are known.
