Port Moresby’s Weekly Crime Rate Update

By Staycey Yalo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Seven of eight vehicles stolen in Port Moresby last week have been recovered by police.

National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent, Perou N’Dranou, says despite NCD police lacking manpower, a number of policemen will now be placed on foot patrols in identified hotspots to cut down on crimes in the city.

The NCD Met Supt’s weekly update to the media revealed that of eight vehicles stolen last week, 7 were recovered.

Among the crimes reported for last week, Port Moresby continues to see an increase in sexual crimes.

The challenge for the police now is to have officers stationed in crime hotspots.

According to the Met Supt, there should be two response units for each electorate; but to date, support units have been called in from other electorates to address major crimes in the Moresby South and Moresby North West areas.
