The Port Moresby AFL season ended with outstanding results in all three divisions.
In a back-to-back performance, MoniPlus Taurama Sun’s looked to bag the title for a second time.
Concept Koboni’s leading goal-scorer, Amua Pirika posted the first points on the board with three behinds. Before Sun’s Captain, Jeffrey Namete secured two-goals to take the Sun’s in the lead, 14-points to 11.
Both teams had the boost of Mozzies, in the likes of Ben Tirang for the Sun’s and Gideon Simon for Koboni’s.
At times in the second and third quarter, there were signs of uncontrolled aggression by players, adding to the intensity of the match.
The Sun’s looked to bag the title, nevertheless, Koboni’s regained possession in the dying seconds, and through a fractured Sun’s defence, posted a goal to snatch the title off the Sun’s grasps.
Gerehu Magpies and Defence Hawks soared over Lamana Dockers and University Tigers to claim the crown in the respective Women’s and Men’s Reserve Grade grand final.
With the upgrading of the sports field along the Bisini Parade, Port Moresby among other codes are looking forward to using the facilities once leased for next years season.
