The Popondetta General Hospital is a 150 bed, level 5 Public Hospital established underthe Public Health Act 1994. It achieved a milestone after 46 years withthe launch of its corporate plan.
The five year plan from 2011 to 2016 demands excellence in health to be delivered to its patients.
Overthe years, this was a challenge with limited staff and resources.
Thoughthese challenges exist,the hospital hopes to fill that gap underthe direction ofthe corporate plan.
They have partnered withthe University of Papua New GuineaSchool of Medicine and Health Sciences to train more doctors for the hospital.
Ijivitari member, David Arore, has committed K100 000 for training of Community Health Workers at Divine Word University.
He has also committed K 20, 000 incentive to retain specialist doctors brought in bythe hospital next year.
A similar gesture of K 30, 000 was accorded tothe hospital bythe Sohe member, Delilah Gore.
K10 million has already been drawn down fromthe initial funding of K50 million to build a new operatingtheatre and surgical ward.
Chief Executive Officer ofthe Hospital, Gunzee Gawin, is pushing work to begin January next year.
The corporate plan isthe first for the hospital since its establishment in 1967.
