Wentworth Miller of Prison Be ak fame has recently revealed he is gay.
When an invitation was sent tothe star inviting him to attendthe St. PetersburgInternational Film Festival in Russia,the 41 year old repllied, addressing a letter tothe Director ofthe Festival, Maria Averbakh, saying, “Thank you for your kind invitation. As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia inthe past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes, however, as a gay man, I must decline.
“I am deeply troubled bythe current attitude toward and treatment of gay men and women bythe Russian government,” he continued inthe letter. “The situation is in no way acceptable, and I cannot in good conscience participate in a celebratory occasion hosted by a country where people like myself are being systematically denliedtheir basic right to live and lover openly.”
The actor refers tothe recently passed laws in Russia against homosexuals, in an effort to promote traditional Russian values over Western influences by banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations”.
The star concluded by writing, “Perhaps, when and if circumstances improver, I'll be free to make a different choice.”
