Pope Francis conducted the Angelus Prayer reminding the world that it was the day to celebrate Saint Stephen, the first martyr of the Catholic Church.
Saint Stephen in the biblical context was stoned to death and became the first martyr.
Pope Francis, the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics said in his Christmas message, that the world was whipped by “winds of war,” urging a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and peace for the contested city of Jerusalem.
“Dear brothers and sisters – good morning! After celebrating the birth of Jesus, today we celebrate the birth of St. Stephen, the first martyr, into heaven,” Said the Catholic head.
The pontiff also urged people to see the defenceless baby Jesus in the children who suffer the most from war, migration and natural calamities caused by man today.
“Please don’t forget to pray for me. Have a good lunch and good-bye!” said the Pontiff
