Opposition leader Don Polye says PNG leaders must embrace the kind of leadership Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare has shown over the years.
Polye said Sir Michael’s leadership traits had come a long way in shaping the nation.
“He is not just a leader, Sir Michael believes that PNG can achieve its goals and be an independent state,” said Polye.
“His leadership with other great leaders made us to what we are today,” Polye added.
The Opposition leader made these remarks in an extended word of farewell, in Parliament yesterday.
Highlighting Somare’s leadership as the former Prime Minister, the Opposition leader said leaders of the 10th Parliament must embrace the legacy of our forefathers for PNG to move forward.
Speaker of Parliament Theo Zurenuoc also gave his remarks.
It was an historical occasion for the 9th Parliament; the Speaker says Sir Michael has left a legacy for every Papua New Guinean to know, appreciate, and learn from.
Sir Michael was voted into Parliament on April 4th in 1984.
