Morobe’s Provincial Electoral Commission office is working with limited funds to conduct a by-election in Morobe’s Nawaeb district.
The Nabak LLG presidential seat by-election polling dates had been deferred two times already due to funding delays.
Returning Officer, Fredah Joses, says the provincial government has been the only funder for this election.
Preparations for the Nabak LLG Presidential seat by-election at Morobe’s Nawaeb district is underway but struggling due to funding delays.
Three polling teams have been deployed to Nawaeb’s Nabak area to begin voting tomorrow while the other three teams are stranded in Lae with polling deferred to Thursday.
The setback has been the result of a lack of funding support from the Electoral Commission Office in assisting the Provincial government fund this by-election.
Six teams were assigned to conduct this by-election at the 15 wards in Nawaeb’s Nabak LLG.
The K50,000 that allocated by provincial government has not fully catered to all the expenses.
Voting materials, transport, security personnel and allowances are some of the expenses.
Polling dates have been moved back but the provincial electoral commission now hopes to complete all polls within the set period from June 22 to July 1.
