PNGRFL Southern Zone Trials Underway

The PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Southern Zone Trials kicked off Monday at the Sir William Skate Oval with officials present to make selections.

Yesterday’s matches saw nine games, with 18 men’s teams from in and around the nation’s capital taking part in order to secure themselves a spot in the NCD Teams attending the Southern Zone Confederate Cup in Popondetta.

EMTV caught up with the 6th game today as Tubusereia Sharkies and Koita Cowboys took the field.

A lot of potential was on display today as the Tubusereia Sharkies and Koita Cowboys put their best tactics to play.

By half time, the score line was 12-4 in favour of the Tubusereia Sharks.

The match ended in favour of Koita Cowboys with a 12 – 28 score line.

Skills displayed did not go unnoticed as Koita Cowboys’ game maker and possible selectee, Authur Daure, was awarded the Man of the Match.

PNGRFL Southern Zone Trials Director, Gwaibo Mairi, said aside from making selections for the Southern Zone Confederation Cup, they are also looking at producing potential players for the National Championship as well as other bigger rugby league tournaments.

With a total of 18 teams taking part, the trials will continue for the next three days. The women’s trial matches will be played on Thursday.
