PNGNA: Nurses To Maintain Service

The Papua New Guinea Nurses Association has called on all nurses to continue with their normal duties.

General Secretary, Edward Foe told EMTV News, that although they support the Health Support Staff, for the strike action, nurses must continue with normal duties. This is because consequences and disciplinary actions are high for those who fail to abide by the directions.

Mr Foe says the nurses’ priority is to serve the sick in their line of duties, as per the oath they made to serve the Lord and the State, as per the Essential Services Act.

“The health support staff, are entitled to remuneration, housing and all other benefits, that nurses are also asking for,”

“In that perspective, we support what they are claiming, to better their pay and working conditions,” Foe said.

Mr Foe says the strike conducted by the health support staff doesn’t really concern their union, and they will maintain work.

Nurses Industrial Award 2016 to 2018 is now being fully implemented.

Mr Foe said nurses must strive to do their best in their calls of duty.
