Top PNG Weightlifters will now have the chance to qualify for two international competitions in order to progress into the next Commonwealth Games in Australia.
This includes 2014 Commonwealth Gold medallists, Dika Toua and Steven Kari, who missed out on this year’s Olympic Games in Rio.
Next year’s Oceania Championships will be an important lead up for athletes to compete as they focus on the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
PNG Weightlifting Federation is now in negotiations with PNG Olympic Committee for funding to meet living expenses for athletes attending the academy in Noumea.
PNGs continuous success has not only been the regional level, but also at the Commonwealth Games. The PNG weightlifting fraternity now look to groom new talent who have the potential to be the next best lifter for PNG.
