PNG-Vietnam Ties

By Delly Waigeno – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Papua New Guinea and Vietnam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the bonds between both countries.

Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Rimbink Pato, signed the MoU with the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister, Pham Binh Minh, in Manila on the sidelines of the APEC Meeting.

The MoU on APEC Cooperation between Vietnam and PNG marks a historic occasion as both economies come together for the first time within their APEC membership to work together towards the success of the APEC hosting years in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Mr Pato said “the signing signifies our desires to enhance mutual cooperation in APEC and to jointly contribute to promoting APEC’s role in the region”.

He added that the signing will further signify the commencement of cooperation between PNG and Vietnam through exchanges of views and dialogues at all levels and the implementation of programs and projects in areas of common interest.
