PNG U18 Men’s National Basketball Team have won the first of their two matches, splitting the win against the Cairns Marlins U18 representative side on Sunday, defeating Cairns 80-62.
However, the visitors were outclassed in the second match by Cairns 99-58 in yesterday’s match, leaving Australia with one-win and one-loss.
Head Coach of the PNG U18 men’s team, Joel Khalu, said the competition proved to be a valuable learning experience for the young stars, as the tour was all about creating opportunities for the players to get international exposure. With the women’s team winning Bronze in division B and men’s team spliting their win against the Australian team.
Meanwhile, both the men’s and women’s team have done well so far in terms of their overseas performances. Most of the players involved may find themselves representing their respective provinces come the PNG Games next year.
