Papua New Guinea’s U17 women’s football team have defeated New Caledonia 2-1, securing a spot in the grand ginal of the OFC Women’s Championships in Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
Robertlyn Kig scored PNG’s first goal early in the match, which saw them leadi 1-0 all through the first half.
In the second half, both teams were equally matched in ball possession, New Caledonia managed to equal the scores from a penalty taken by Jackie Pahoa, with just five minutes left in the match.
In the final seconds of stoppage time, Kig got her second, to seal the victory over New Caledonia. PNG will play New Zealand in the final; New Zealand beat Fiji in the first semi-final playoff in a one’sided encounter thrashing Fiji, 11-0.
