Papua New Guineais targeting high value markets to sell its coffee which currently only supplies one per cent ofthe world’s coffee undertheInternational Coffee Quota system.
The CoffeeIndustry Corporation told a visiting Japanese delegation keen in PNG Coffee that it’seeks possible investment opportunities.
During a presentation tothe delegates, CIC’s Economics and Marketing Team leader Charles Dambui sain PNG is targeting its produce for high value markets as a response to threats and opportunities inthe local and world markets.
He saidthe industry has shifted its policies to focus on more producer participation, quality control and marketing, research, demand led extension, and direct trade relations.
He added that coffee growers are now focused on improving coffee quality for better prices.
Meantime,the National Executive Council has suspended Chief Executive Officer ofthe CoffeeIndustry Corporation, Navi Anis.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said Anis was suspended following serious allegations of poor governance, accountability, and misconduct in office.
As investigations begin NEC has appointed Anton Benjamin as Acting CEO for three months.
