Toea Wisil, has had an impressive performance at the 93rd Australian Athletics Championships in Brisbane, following the Adelaide Track Classic last month, where she won the 100 metre event with a season’s best of 11.66 seconds and came second in the 200 metres with yet another season’s best time of 24.02 seconds.
Getting off to a great start in the 100 metre heats on Friday, Wisil moved with ease to win the event and qualify for the finals.
The 100 metre women’s final on Saturday saw Wisil line up against Australia’s best female sprinters in Melissa Breen and Ashleigh Whittaker.
Wisil clocked 11.40 seconds in the 100 metre finals on Saturday, coming second to Australia’s fastest woman, and national 100 metres record holder Melissa Breen.
Breen was the fastest qualifier for the upcoming IAAF World Championships in Beijing, clocking a time of 11:31 seconds.
The 93rd Australian Athletics Championships brought together the superstars of Australian athletics, and around the world.
All events were straight finals, with only the best runners, throwers and jumpers having qualified during the preliminary rounds to take part.
Toea Wisil, dubbed the Pacific sprint queen, is training in Australia for the Pacific Games and is a strong gold medal prospect. Despite suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the year, Wisil bounced back with sheer determination to maintain her top form on the tracks.
