PNG Rugby 7s aiming for 2016 Rio Olympics

PNG Rugby 7’s will be aiming to makethe 2016 Rio Olympics for the first time sincethe code has been included bytheInternational Olympic Committee.

TheInternational Rugby Bady is looking at heavily investing in PNG Rugby Football Union givePNG’s great potential inthe sport.

According to statistics presented bythe Head ofthe Oceania Federation of Rugby Union, William Glenwright,the game of rugby union is growing at a rate of nineteen percent since 2007 anPNG is no exception.

Withthe success ofthe 2011 Rugby LeagueWorld Cupthe IRBehas turned its sights oPNG and with high performance training alluding to good administration and finance.

Last night’s gthering was to point outthe IRBrand FORU’s structure on how bestthe code can reach greater heights withthe help of all stakeholders.

The success oPNG at ther international 7s and rugby union tournaments now lie intheir junior development program and futher drivingthe women’s team forward.

Withthe junior rugby union program pilot project spread to eight schools within NCD,the rugby union code can rest assure that talent will be easily identiflied.
