The PNG Correctional Service (PNGCS) will soon have family protection insurance.
PNGCS and Southern Cross Assurance Limited signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today. It is a first of its kind in PNG.
The MOU signing is the first step taken by PNGCS and Southern Cross Assurance Limited. They will still pull together proposals to be tabled in parliament for approval.
PNGCS’s family protection insurance will benefit both warders and prisone’s. It contains medical insurance, which includes funeral benefits, loss of life while on duty, personal accidents, the chartering of an aircraft for the deceased, and more. It will also extend to prisone’s.
Southern Cross Assurance Limited also joined the PNGCS in refurbishing the medical facility at Bomana and other CS centres around the country. They have discussed with Health Minister Michael Malabag and NCD Governor Powes Parkop on providing full-time doctors and nurses to all PNGCS’ medical clinics.
PNGCS Commissioner Michael Waipo says their lives are always at risk and this insurance assistance will greatly benefit them. It will also boost their morale to work wholeheartedly.
