Kandep is located towardsthe South/Western end of Enga province. It’sthe centre of a Chinese government’sponsored wheat project but that is no more.

Kandep has been cut off since.  Fighting between supporters of rival politicians Don Polye and Alfred Manese has left over a 100 people killed and tens of thousands of kina destruction to property.

Beth Polye, the current MP and cabinet minister and Manese, a lawyer have not returned to Kandep sincethe elections. Everyone else fled too, leaving Kandep a ghost station. They may have to next week for a peace deal being organised.

It isthe work of high level management committee headed bythe provincial administrator, Dr Samson Amean.

It is expected that Waigani will also make a strong stand to ensure that normalcy prevails in Kandep.

It is urgent for Kandep as it is already behind inthe National Government implementation and service delivery policies.
