Paul Paraka Saga: Lawyer Says It’s Now Up to the Government

Those who have been named inthe Commission ofInquiry intothe Finance Department have been referred tothe Task Force Sweep to be investigated.

This follows a National Court Decision dissolving an interim injunction that has restrainedthe State from acting onthe recommendations.

 

After 3 years,the State is now free to implementthe recommendations contained inthe report.

 

Chief Secretary, Sir Manasupe Zurenouc in a statement saidthe lawyers implicated have been referred tothe Law Society oPNG.

 

 

The report revealed millions of kina paid out bythe department through fraudulent means.

 

The governmentthen set up a team to take immediate action to implementthe recommendations however was barred following a successful interim order granted to Zachery Gelu and Paul Paraka Lawyers.

 

Last Friday this order was dissolved which meansthe state can implementthe recommendations contained inthe report and take action against those named inthe report.

 

Principal lawyer of Kuman Lawyers, who has been acting for the state and 4 thers, says it is now up tothe state to implementthe recommendations.

 

Mr.Kuman pointed out thatthe applicants can file an application atthe Supreme Court.

 

The Chief Secretary, in his statement said significant reforms have been undertaken withinthe department of Finance to ensure only valid judgement debts are paid.
