Papua New Guinea – Fiji Bilateral Ties

by Michelle Amba – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The new Fiji High Commissioner to PNG, Esala Teleni, says his immediate approach towards strengthening the PNG and Fiji diplomatic relationship is to identify the weaknesses.

Mr EsalaTeleni said there are some weaknesses concerning the areas of how diplomatic issues are being treated and handled. When speaking, the Fiji High Commissioner to PNG said that these were areas that can be fixed.

The High Commissioner who took office last month said PNG and Fiji are the two leading countries in the Pacific region and should be leading the other smaller Pacific Island countries.

He also said that both countries have had a long history of relationship and the Fijian government is focused on strengthening that relationship.

Before talking about the diplomatic relationship the Fijian High Commissioner congratulated fellow Fijians who are here for the current 15th Pacific Games and have won medal and he wished them a safe journey back home.
