After almost 55 years of initial planning, Pakinsela Village in Namatanai has a new church building.
The new United Church building is a community driven initiative by elites of the village, empowered by local resources.
The church building was opened recently by United Church Bishop Reverend Salot Taram.
Despite being seen as a community-driven initiative, Bishop Salot Taram says, the new church embraces the growth in the church leveled against the faith of the locals at Pakinsela.
“It is the work of believers who are filled with the spirit of God to come this far and celebrate the opening of this church”, said Bishop Taram.
The new church building boasts a sitting capacity of over 300 people.
It took almost 2 and half years to complete the church with a fundraising balance of K48, 000.
Other costs of construction were not included because of the generosity of individuals.
Part of the celebrations includes choir presentations by churches from United Circuits around New Ireland province including Duke of York Islands.
