Pacific Games: Fiji Needs Support

By Dion Kombeng – EM TV, Port Moresby

With the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games only a few months away, the Fijian Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) are hopeful that Fijians will be able to help send their athletes to the games.

In a bid to raise funds for Team Fiji, FASANOC is selling lottery tickets to the public. The money raised from the lottery will then be given back to the sporting organisations that will then use it for their athletes levy.

Corporate entity Abacus Graphics jumped on board with Team Fiji becoming a champion, giving $3000 to FASANOC under their championship program.

Each athlete requires a levy of $1625 and FASANOC believe that with the help of the nation, the target amount for the Pacific Games can be met. Chief Executive Lorraine Mar said that athletes represent Fiji and when they win, they make the nation proud.

Winning 33 gold medals and a total of 130 medals at the 2011 Noumea Games, Team Fiji is looking at producing better results and believes that with the support of the nation, they will be able to send all athletes to compete in their respective sports at the games come July in Port Moresby.
