Pacific Games Fever Expected To Dominate Social Media

by Quinton Alomp – EM TV News, Port Moresby

This year’s Pacific Games to kick off this Saturday is expected to be the biggest and the most active event on social media.

Photos and highlights of the games are expected to dominate Facebook and other social media.

Already internet service providers and mobile telecommunication companies are making sure their service is reliable and effective during the games duration.

It is expected that online traffic will be dominated by social media users. To solve this, Bmobile Vodafone has installed telecommunication towers at the Games village, Sir John Guise BSP stadium, Bisini and the Taurama indoor sports complex.

Bmobile Vodafone Chief Marketing Officer, Parag Panjwani, said more people will be engaged in social media at the games venues to update their families, friends and relatives about the event.

Bmobile Vodafone is the official mobile service providers for the games.

Games officials were given 3,700 free sim cards. The company is boosting up network connectivity in sporting venues.

International visitors are offered a competitive rate for calls and text messages to their families overseas with special data packages for internet and social media users at the same rate as local users.

The company is selling special limited number of sim cards with free calls, sms and internet data in a move to celebrate the Pacific games spirit.

With this initiative, Facebook users are expecting high speed internet and no calls congestion at all main games. This makes this Pacific Games, starting on Saturday, the biggest event ever to dominate the social media.
