The final report on investigations into the Lands and Physical Planning Department was presented to the Speaker of Parliament by Ombudsman Commission.
The land issue was brought to light after numerous concerns were raised to the lands Department by concerned people and organizations in Kimbe, that fell on deaf ears.
The investigation took eight years to complete. The investigation revealed irregularities that were involved in licensing a piece of land set aside for the establishment of a market, and car park in Kimbe town.
It also revealed that one Lands Officer was paid sums of money for his involvement in issuing the license. The piece of land was initially zoned for commercial purposes.
However, when the Kimbe Urban Local Level Government applied to have the land rezoned, over six year ago, their request was approved by the National Physical Board.
This led to the same piece of land being improperly licensed to a private company, Solar Industries Limited, to do feasibility studies for commercial purposes.
The Speaker is required under Section 23 of the organic law on the Ombudsman Commission, to present the report to parliament within eight days.
