Olsem Wanem – Episode 25, 2015

In this episode:
we will be highlighting the 6th PNG Human Rights Film Festival. The festival aims to create awareness on different human rights issues in Papua New Guinea.

A film by Dennis O’rourke which was featured during the film festival is a testament of how films can capture and preserve significant events such as the Independence of our country 40 years ago.

We also feature the panel discussion that took place after the screening of Yumi Yet, a film that shows the day that PNG gained Independence. The discussion saw panellists discussing the vision for Papua New Guinea in 1975 and the current vision for the country’s future and human rights in Papua New Guinea.

The panellists aired their views on the contrasts that took place pre independence and post-independence. According to the panel participants the country’s social indicators had dropped since Independence
