Nurses Union Disappointed, on the brink of Nationwide Strike

by Louisah Frank – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The Department of Personal Management’s delay to sign the Nurses Award has raised concerns and disappointment with the PNG Nurses Association.

The Nurses Award includes their base salary and the various allowances such as on call allowance, and risk allowances.

The current Award Agreement expired in 2013, and until now; the new agreement has not been signed.

PNG Nurses Association expressed their disappointment with the Department of Personal Management (DPM) to the media today, especially when the DPM did not attend a meeting to give the union their feedback.

Acting National President of the PNG Nurses Association, Steven Nawik, said that the meeting today was to get an exact date to sign the agreement.

Since the Department of Personal Management have delayed the signing of the agreement for more than two years, Steven Nawik said the DPM has until midday tomorrow or they will declare a nation-wide strike.
