Assistant Commissioner of Northern Command, Peter Guinness has refuted claims made by the Madang Governor Peter Yama to the 8 public servants arrested.
Guinness says as the Divisional Commander he looks after Morobe, Madang, Eastern Highlands, and Lae Metropolitan Command.
Adding his decisions overrides all commands and orders by the Lae Metsupt and the PPCs under his command.
ACP further states that the case was reported two years ago however the former PPC, Ben Nenego has been sitting on the case until he was removed and replaced by the current PPC.
Moreover, the case was brought back to the police headquarters and as the head of the Divisional Command, he had ordered an investigation into the Manam funds.
The investigation started again in 2020 and the cases went through the court following ongoing investigations but were struck out.
Police revisit the case and rearrest the 8 public servants over the alleged misappropriation of the K6million of funds belonging to the Manam Resettlement Authority.
The suspects were arrested and taken to Ramu District Court and were presided over yesterday and the suspects are now in custody at the Buimo Correctional facility in Lae.
Guinness further states the decision to take the suspects to Ramu District Court was because of alleged implications by the Madang District Court.
Meanwhile, Guinness brushed aside Yama’s claims that it is more political saying there is no political connection between him and anyone.
The investigation is simple police work.
