The National Maritime Safety Authority yesterday launched its new corporate plan 2015 to 2019.
It sets out a roadmap towards achieving key milestones and priorities set out in the Medium Term Transport Plan 2014 to 2018, and the National Transport Strategy.
The National Maritime Safety Authority was established by an act of parliament, the NMSA Act of 2003.
Since then it has delivered on much of the government’s plans in building and improving the maritime transport sector in the country.
The launch of the 5 year Corporate Plan last night further outlines NMSA’s commitment.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, William Duma, encouraged NMSA to deliver on the corporate plan.
The new merchant shipping act and various marine pollution regulations once passed will provide statutory framework to enable NMSA to carry out its work.
A revised NMSA Act is also being sought by the government.
He says, the government plans to transform NMSA into a more resilient and multi-functional government agency.
