Willie Gia picked up a soccer ball, not knowing that one day he would be playing for National Soccer League reigning kings, Hekari United Football Club.
Originating from Makerupu village in Hula, Central province, Gia has set aside gardening, hunting, fishing to take up soccer.
His curiosity of knowing David Muta, Koriak Upaiga and ther toPNG’soccer players inthe country, has built his interest in soccer.
Gia’s debut began in 2010, when he first hitthe soccer ball, not knowing he would one day, make his way intothe club.
Although Gia comes from a volleyball background, he enjoys his time out with friend to have a game of soccer.
He took upthe game seriously atthe age of 15 and joined a local competition in his village in 2011.
He wasthen identiflied and got selected intothe Verave Soccer Club to take part inthe Port Moresby Soccer Association Youth Competition.
Fromthere, he was scouted for Wantoks Football Club to play inthe NCD Public Servant Soccer Competition.
Gia continued his good performance and made it intothe NCDPSSA Under 20 development squad forthPNGFA-sanctioned championship in Madang in 2012.
His talent and determination to excel, proverd him worthy atthe 2012 Besta Cup in Lae andthe recent one in Alotau.
Gia joined forces with Hekari United FC in 2012 and is currently preparing for the 2014 NSL season underthe watchful eyes ofthe coaching staff and Team Manageress Vonnie Kapi Natto.
