Any national championship can be used as a measure and test of performance, especially for local athletes who are aspiring to make it to international level.
Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko, shared similar sentiments during his official address to the participants of the National Volleyball Championship at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, recently.
With world standard facilities such as the Taurama Aquatic Indoor Centre, the Sports Minister urged all federations and not just the code of volleyball, to utilise these resources, and become the best in their sport.
With the deferral of the PNG Games, Tkatchenko says playing at this level is the key test point, to see individual capabilities and improve where needed, so the best can compete in the Games.
And for the sports federations in the country, the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia, is another major international event that all must work towards.
Meanwhile, the Sports Minister gave his assurance to work closely with all federations, to bring an elite Team PNG to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, once the FIFA U21 Women’s World Cup, and the PNG Games have ended.
