Morobe Mining Joint Ventures (MMJV) celebrated its third annual National Mining Safety Week in all its sites in Morobe Province this week.
Safety Superintendent Frederick Guirguis said the week reinforces the core values of Health and Safety in all operations. Mr Guirguis said, their aim is to make sure employees return safely to their families without any injury.
At Hidden Valley, where the event was in full swing from March 24th to the 30th, activities included a slogan and poster competition, song competition, quiz and raffle draws. Schools from neighboring mine communities also took part by providing hand-drawn safety posters which won them prizes individually and also for their schools.
Emergency Response team was out in full force demonstrating how they respond to emergencies while their team mates from Health & Safety were busy responding to health emergency scenarios.
All activities were staged around the theme “Safety at Home, Safety at Work and Safety for All.”
Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) introduced the event in 2012 to raise awareness on health and safety in all PNG mine sites.
