Television viewers in Papua New Guinea will be able to watch more of the worlds best programs under a deal signed recently, 8 April 2015, between EM TV and the ABC, one of the Asia-Pacific’s foremost public broadcasters.
The agreement formalised in Sydney makes programs on the ABC’s Australia-plus channel available to viewers of PNG’s premier Free-to-Air television network, EM TV.
Australia-plus broadcasts a mix of programming, including lifestyle, drama, Sport, English-language learning programs, children’s programming and news and current affairs programs like Foreign Correspondent.
As well as providing regional and international coverage from the ABC’s world-renowned news and current affairs service, critically-acclaimed drama series on Australia-plus include, Home and Away, Offspring, Packed to the Rafters, Rake, The Doctor Blake Mysteries and The Time of Our Lives.
Media Niugini Limited, who’s Chief Executive Bhanu Sud, hailed the signing with the ABC as a great day for EM TV and our viewers in Papua New Guinea.
“EM TV has been Papua New Guinea’s window to the world for more than three decades,” Mr Sud said. “We are constantly expanding our offerings and this agreement brings some more of the worlds best television to viewers in PNG.”
In Sydney for the signing, he thanked the ABC for their professionalism and generosity in negotiating the deal, with special praise for the ABC’s Chief Operating Officer, David Pendleton, and ABC International’s Head of Business Development John Woodward.
Mr Sud said EM TV and the ABC would discuss future program sharing as EM TV continues to expand its services.
