More Awareness needed to help people living with disabilities

A disabled intellectual says lack of awareness has preventedthe disabled from contributing meaningfully.

Be nda Lomgange was speaking atthe video conference in Port Moresby to Japan, possible throughthe JICA Net Program.

Be nda Lomgange and Ruth Javati are two disabled intellectuals. They completed a training course recently on intellectual disability in community activity in Japan.

A presentation ofthe project activity report was made last Friday through video conferencing here in Port Moresby, to an eleven member meeting in Japan.

Participant’s in Japan anPNG exchanged ideas and discussions on issues affectingthe inclusion of people living with disabilities.

One approach towards people living with disability intellectuals isthe ‘inclusion in all developmental activities’ – also outlined inthe draft policy, which includes buildings which must cater for them to access.
